Digicel entered the marketplace through its purchase of Bouygues Telecom Caraibe in April 2006, which was a wholly owned subsidiary of Bouygues Telecom that recorded 2005 revenues of Euro 117 million (US$ 148 million) including handset sales .   With this acquisition Digicel gained over 160,000 subscribers and further expanded its pan Caribbean network.
